Barend Botha moved to 19-under-par on Saturday with a six-under-par 65 in the third round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Compliance Solutions Championship at the Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, Oklahoma.
It’s been a week of low scoring, and the South African added his third-round score to his opening 65 and his second round of seven-under 64 – but he still found himself eight strokes off the lead in a share of fourth.
Up front, Belgian Adrien Dumont de Chassart stretched his lead with a third round of seven-under-par 64 taking him seven clear of Korea’s ST Lee, who had a nine-under 62 to move to 20-under, and of Colombian Marcelo Rozo, who signed for a 66.
Botha was in a share of fourth with Davis Chatfield of the United States, China’s Zecheng Dou and American Cooper Dossey.
De Chassart started with two consecutive 10-under 61s and his 27-under 186 is the lowest 54-hole score in Korn Ferry Tour history. The seven-stroke lead marks the largest 54-hole lead on tour this and matches the second largest 54-hole lead in Korn Ferry Tour history.
Botha is projected to rise 11 places on the Korn Ferry Tour points list to 50th, taking him into next week’s Korn Ferry Tour Championship with an outside chance of pulling off a PGA Tour card there. The top 20 after next week’s event will earn their cards.
Christo Lamprecht is projected to slip one place on the list to 12th after his third round of five-under 66 took him to a share of 29th on 14-under-par. He is almost certain of being on the PGA Tour next year.
