A fast start on the front nine on Monday helped Daniel Cornje to a six-under-par 66 and the first-round lead of the Bushveld Tour’s Srixon Series #5 at Krugersdorp Golf Club.
Cronje parred the par-five first, and then made an eagle-three on the par-five second to kickstart his round. Birdies on three and four kept the momentum going, and two more on six and seven saw him turn in six-under 31. Things weren’t quite as easy for him on the back nine, with two birdies and bogeys on 11 and 15.
He finished the first day of the 54-hole tournament two strokes clear of amateur Jere Brits, who had seven birdies and three bogeys in his four-under 68.
Two more amateurs were in a share of third with Jason Froneman on three-under-par 69. Joshua Hirsch and Jan-Hendrik Nieuwoudt each made two bogeys in their opening rounds of 69.
There were five players in a share of sixth on two-under-par 70 rounding out the top 10.
