Zander Lombard got his campaign to regain his DP World Tour card off to a good start on Friday as he carded a seven-under-par 64 in the first round of the DP World Tour Qualifying School Final Stage at Lakes Course, Infinitum in Tarragona, Spain.
After his front nine of five-under-par 35, with five birdies and no dropped shots, Lombard made bogey on the 12th before picking up three more birdies on his way home. He ended the day two strokes off the lead, which was held by Connor McKinney of Australia after his nine-under 62.
Lombard shared second with Alex Goff of the United States and Cedric Gugler of Switzerland. There were seven players in a share of sixth on five-under-par, including Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Follett-Smith and South Africa’s Robin Williams. Follett-Smith went bogey-free with an eagle and three birdies, while Willams made seven birdies and two bogeys.
George Coetzee opened with a three-under-par and a share of 25th together with, amongst others, Martin Vorster. Justin Harding was on two-under, Yurav Premlall on one-under and Justin Walters on two-over-par. Rhys Enoch of Wales was also on two-over.
The top 20 players and ties will win their playing privileges on the DP World Tour.
