MJ Daffue carded a closing one-over-par 73 on Sunday for a share of third place in the DP World Tour’s Hero Indian Open at the tough DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram, India.
On a challenging final day, when the winner made three bogeys and a double on his way to a three-under 69 and a two-stroke victory at nine-under, Daffue’s two bogeys and a double represented a fairly good return.
Daffue finished on five-under-par together with Ugo Coussaud of France and England’s Any Sullivan two shots behind Spaniard Eugenio Chacarra who was runner-up on seven-under for the tournament.
Alex Fitzpatrick surged to his maiden DP World Tour victory after a stunning final nine holes to overhaul defending champion Chacarra. The Englishman joined his elder brother, European Ryder Cup star Matt Fitzpatrick, as a winner on Tour – and the siblings made history as the first ever to win in successive weeks on the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour.
Although Fitzpatrick started the day four shots behind Chacarra, and he started the back nine with a bogey, he had built up a head of steam at that stage with three birdies in four holes ahead of the turn. He followed that bogey with three birdies in a row, and another two on the 15th and 17th. By the time he made double on the par-five 18th, it no longer mattered as Chacarra had fallen away with three consecutive bogeys from 15 to 17 to go with three earlier drops he had made.
Casey Jarvis finished in a share of 13th on level-par with a closing 76, disappointing after his brilliant 64 in the second round. Dylan Frittelli was three shots back in a share of 20th on three-over after he closed with a two-over 74.
Yurav Premlall carded a final round of 74 to finish in a share of 31st on six-over. Thriston Lawrence’s 75 took him to eight-over and 40th, while Michale Hollick was on 10-over in a share of 43rd after his 77 in the last round.
