Retief Goosen carded a one-under-par 71 on Sunday as he finished in a share of ninth in the PGA Tour Champions Insperity Invitational.
He made four birdies and three bogeys in the rain-shortened tournament which was decided over 36 holes instead of the scheduled 54. The tournament brought a long-awaited victory for former Masters champion Mike Weir of Canada, who carded a second-round 68 to finish on 10-under and two shots clear of John Daly, Tim Petrovic and David Toms.
Ernie Els made a second one-under 71 for finish two-under for the tournament and in a share of 20th, while David Frost moved into a share of 38th with his closing 71.
In the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship, Louis Oosthuizen closed with a two-under 69 to finish inside the top 10 at nine-under for the week. He was in a share of ninth, eight shots off the winning total of Sam Burns, who took his maiden PGA Tour title by two shots from Keegan Bradley.
Charl Schwartzel closed with a level-par 71 to finish at five-under for the tournament in a share of 21st, while Branden Grace also signed for a closing level-par 71, moving him to a share of 54th at one-under for the week.
In Japan, in another rain-shortened tournament, Shaun Norris finished the Japan Golf Tour’s The Crowns tournament on level-par for 54 holes after closing with a three-over-par 73. He was in 37th behind winner Hiroshi Iwata, who won by three shots at 12-under from Katsumasa Miyamoto. Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent and Jbe’ Kruger both missed the 36-hole cut.
On the LPGA Tour, Ashleigh Buhai had a share of 57th in the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore. She was five-over for the week in the tournament won by South Korea’s Hyo Joo Kim at 17-under by one shot from Australia’s Hannah Green.
On the Symetra Tour, Paula Reto also finished at five-over in the 54-hole Garden City Charity Classic in Kansas. The tournament was won by American Lilia Vu at eight-under by one shot from countrywoman Beth Wu. Reto moves to 12th in the Race for the Card in her quest for LPGA Tour eligibility.
