Kyle Murphy made an eagle and two birdies in his closing nine on Friday to run out a two-shot winner with his four-under-par 68 in the Bushveld Tour’s one-day tournament at Benoni Lake Club.
Murphy held off five players who all carded two-under-par 70. Sharing second were Conway Kunneke, Kyle Klopper, Michael Kok, Paul Boshoff, Ricky Hendler and Slade Pickering, while Bradford Vaughan, Rupert Kaminski and Tristan Leonard shared eighth on one-under.
Murphy started his round on the 10th with a birdie, but he immediately dropped a shot on the 11th. He reached the turn in level-par thanks to a birdie on 15 and a bogey on the 18th. The critical hole for him was the par-five third, where he picked up his eagle. He kept things together well coming home, picking up two more shots with birdies on the fifth and eighth to put him clear of any pursuers.
It was a good win for Murphy, as he held off recent Bushveld Tour winners including Benjamin Follett-Smith, Hayden Griffiths and Ryan van Velzen.
