Franklin Manchest carded a superb nine-under-par 62 on Tuesday to move into a two-stroke lead after the second round of the Big Easy IGT Tour’s Road to the Sunshine Tour Play Off #2 at Blue Valley Golf and Country Estate.
Manchest made 10 birdies and a bogey in the round of the tournament so far to ease ahead of first-round leader Vaugh van Deventer, who had a second-round 68 to take up second place on 11-under-par. In third was Erhard Lambrechts on 10-under after he carded a four-under 68 of his own. In a share of fourth on eight-under were James Kamte, Carlo Heunis, Jason Smith and Ryan van Velzen.
Manchest had a bogey-free opening nine with four birdies, on two, three six and eight. He parred his way around the turn, and then came the scoring frenzy. He didn’t make par again after the 11th, with birdies on 12 and 13, bogey on 14, and then birdies all the way home.
The leader of the Road to the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit after his win last week is Ian Snyman, and he carded a second-round level-par 72. That put him in a share of 14th place on five-under, eight shots off the lead. The man in second is Kyle McClatchie, and he signed for a two-under 70 to move to three-under for the tournament and a share of 23rd, 10 strokes behind Manchest.
