Ian Snyman closed out his maiden Asian Tour event with a two-under-par 70 on Sunday as he finished in a share of 21st in the Blue Canyon Phuket Championship in Thailand.
He made four birdies and two bogeys to move to 10-under-par for the tournament. That put him eight shots behind the winner, Chan Shih-chang of Chinese Taipei, who closed with a four-under-par 68 to have a one-stroke edge over runners up Joohyung Kim of South Korea and Sadom Kaewkanjana of Thailand.
It was the first tournament on the Asian Tour following a 20-month hiatus caused by the COVIOD-19 pandemic. Snyman earned his card in the Asian Tour Qualifying School for the 2020 season, but has had to wait until now to be able to try his hand on the circuit.
He is in the field for next week’s second tournament in a row in Phuket, the Laguna Phuket Championship, after which he returns to South Africa to play in the Big Easy Tour Championship at Centurion Country Club which tees off on December 8. He is already all but sure of locking up his Sunshine Tour playing privileges at that tournament.
