Calvin Maia finished in a rush on Friday in the Bushveld Tour’s one-day event at Waterkloof Golf Club, with three birdies in a row on the closing three holes giving him a one-stroke victory at five-under-par 67.
Maia, who had frustratingly missed out on getting through to the Sunshine Tour’s Qualifying School Final Stage just the day before, edged out Dylan Naidoo and Jordan Burnard, with Philip Geerts and Ruan Conradie sharing fourth place on three-under-par.
Maia opened his day with a birdie on the first, but he gave that shot back with a bogey on the sixth to turn in level-par. He turned on the charm on the homeward stretch, however, making five birdies in his final six holes from the 13th to pull clear for the win.
Naidoo and Burnard were both bogey-free for their 68s, but that was not enough to resist the fine finish from Maia.
