Dylan Frittelli made inroads into the lead on Saturday with a four-under-par 68 moving him into a share of 10th place after the third round of the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
In a tournament that has been characterised by some low scores – as well as the absence of some of the big names who have been lured away from regular participation in a venerable tournament on the tour to the Asian Tour’s flirtation with Saudi money – Frittelli’s five birdies and a bogey took him to 10-under for the tournament and just five shots off the lead which was held by Beau Hossler, Andrew Putnam and Tom Hoge at 15-under-par.
Three rounds are played on each of Monterey Peninsula Country Club, Spyglass Hill Golf Course and Pebble Beach Golf Links before the curt is made after three rounds and the final round is played at Pebble Beach.
Frittelli’s third round was played at Pebble Beach, which means he will take good momentum into the final round. He started on the 10th hole on Saturday, and picked up a solitary birdie on his outward nine on the eighth hole to turn in one-under-par. He made four more gains with birdies on one, two, four and six, before dropping a shot on the eighth, where he hit his approach short right of the green, and was unable to get up and down for par from there.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout carded a six-under-par 66, also at Pebble Beach, to climb 48 places up the leaderboard into a share of 21st.
Dean Burmester, Dawie van der Walt and Charl Schwarztel were all unable to make the cut.
