Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent opened with a seven-under-par 65 on Thursday to be in a share of eighth place after the first round of the Asian Tour’s International Series Thailand tournament at the Black Mountain Golf Club.
Vincent made seven birdies without dropping a shot in his round, and was three shots off the lead which was held by Sihwan Kim of the United States, who had two eagles, eight birdies and two bogeys in his 10-under-par 62, That gave the American a one-shot lead over Thailand’s Phachara Khongwatmai.
Vincent started his round on the 10th, and immediately got to work with birdies on 10 and 11. He made three more, on 14, 17 and 18, ahead of the turn, and then picked up two more on the front nine.
Mathiam Keyser, who had a good week in last week’s Asian Tour event, opened with a five-under-par 67 to be five shots off the lead in a share of 24th. Also on five-under was Ian Snyman, who is having a solid start to his rookie season on the Asian Tour.
Neil Schietekat and Jaco Ahlers each signed for three-under-par 69 and a share of 57th, while Vincent’s fellow-Zimbabwean Benjamin Follett-Smith carded a one-under 71. Keith Horne was on one-over-par.
