Coert Groenewald fired a three-under-par 69 on Tuesday to lead 10 players into this week’s SDC Championship, co-sanctioned by the Challenge Tour and the Sunshine Tour at Elements Private Golf Reserve and Zebula Golf Estate and Spa.

Groenewald closed with an eagle at Zebula to edge Lindani Ndwandwe by one stroke after the veteran carded a two-under-par 70. Thabang Simon and Stuart Smith of Botswana were on one-under, while Leon Visser, Derick Petersen, Shaahid Mahmed and Quintin Wilsnach all carded level-par, and the final two places were taken by Dayne Moore of Zambia and Marthin Scheepers. They edged Clayton Mansfield, who was also on one-over and lost out on a play-off.

Groenewald also made three birdies and two bogeys in his round, and this represents the third time he has got into one of these co-sanctioned events by winning the qualifier. The other two were the Bain’s Whisky Cape Town Open and the Jonsson Workwear Open.
