Last-chance saloon in Texas for Frittelli to get to Masters

He’s got one round of play left in the Valero Texas Open, and Dylan Frittelli shares the lead as he shoots for victory and the last spot available in next week’s Masters at Augusta National.

Frittelli, who lives in Austin, just 80 miles down the road from San Antonio where the tournament is being played, had a quiet time of it in the third round, with three birdies and a bogey in his two-under-par 70 seeing him climb from second after 36 holes into a four-way share of the lead at 10-under for the tournament.

He shares the lead with Brandt Snedeker, Beau Hossler and JJ Spaun, all of the United States, and none of whom have made it into the Masters yet either.

They all have a one-stroke lead over Scott Stallings who shot a 67 to go to nine-under, while Matt Kuchar had a level-par 72 to be in sixth at eight-under.

For all those players, as well as some further down the leaderboard, like Richard Bland on six-under, it will be a case of going for broke in the final round. Frittelli has been in contention at Augusta National before, so he will have an extra-strong incentive to pull a big one out of the bag.
