Garrick Higgo and Branden Grace kept themselves in contention on Friday in the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans as they carded a fourball score of seven-under-par 65 to move into a share of fourth at the halfway stage of the tournament.

The tournament is played by teams of two, with rounds one and three being in betterball format, and the second and final rounds being fourball – or alternate shot. Higgo and Grace made seven birdies and no bogeys as they used the solid 64 from their first round as a solid foundation. They were on 15-under for the tournament, just two off the pace which was being set by Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele after they added a four-under 68 to their opening 59. They led by one from Aaron Rai and David Lipsky, and Doc Redman and Sam Ryder.

Higgo and Grace started their round on the 10th, and made birdies on 12, 15 and 18. They picked up four more shots on the front nine, on the first, second and third and on the closing ninth. They shared fourth with Wyndham Clark and Cameron Tringale, and with the Australian duo of Jason Scrivener and Jason Day.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Charl Schwartzel carded a four-under 68 to be in a share of 26th, while Dawie van der Walt and his partner Brad Drewitt of Australia missed the cut after signing for a seven-over 79 in the second round.
