Bloemfontein’s Therion Nel took the Bushveld Tour’s Tour Championship at Ebotse Links on Friday when he prevailed over Dylan Mostert in a sudden-death play-off after the pair was locked up on 10-under-par 134 after 36 holes.
Nel initially warded off a strong charge from the left-handed Mostert in regulation play with his closing five-under-par 67. That was despite Mostert making an eagle on the final hole to draw level with Nel on his way to a four-under 68.
Nel made seven birdies and two bogeys in his round, while Mostert, who finished 61st on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit, made the eagle, four birdies and two bogeys.
Third place was taken by amateur Christiaan Burke on eight-under after he followed his opening round of six-under-par 66 with a closing two-under 70. Matthew Spacey, who has just regained his Sunshine Tour card through Q-School, and Rupert Kaminski, who finished 43rd on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit, shared fourth on seven-under.
Alex Brandkamp and Hayden Griffiths shared sixth on six-under, while Casey Jarvis, Herman Loubser, Jacques Blaauw and Luke Jerling shared eighth on five-under to round out the top finishers.
