Garrick Higgo took advantage of making his first cut in a while on Sunday with a closing two-under-par 72 in the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament to finish in a share of 18th.
His last cut on the PGA Tour, not counting the one he made in the team event, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, was back in February in the Honda Classic. He had rounds of 75-71-70-70 at Muirfield Village in Dublin Ohio last week and finished on two-under. That was 11 shots behind runaway winner Billy Horschel, who was four clear of runner-up Aaron Wise.
Higgo had a strong front nine with three birdies and no bogeys, and he got it to four-under with another birdie on 10. But he made drops on 12 and 18 to slip down the leaderboard from what might have been a top-10 finish.
Erik van Rooyen missed the cut.
On the PGA Tour Champions circuit, Ernie Els closed with a four-under 68 on Sunday for a share of 18th in the Principal Charity Classic in Des Moines, Iowa. Jerry Kelly beat Kirk Triplett in a play-off on 18-under. Els was nine strokes back. David Frost was down in 75th.
On the Korn Ferry Tour, MJ Daffue had a quiet week by his standards, with a good closing four-under-par 67 lifting him to six-under and a share of 37th in the Rex Hospitals Open. That was after an indifferent third round of four-over 75. The tournament was won by Davis Thompson of the United States at 17-under. Daffue finished six-under.
