Keagan Thomas kept his foot on the pedal on Tuesday in the second round of the IGT Challenge Tour’s Road to the Sunshine Tour #4 at Bryanston Country Club as a four-under-par 68 kept him two strokes clear of his nearest pursuer.
Thomas made six birdies and two bogeys to reach nine-under through 36 holes, and amateur Conner Mackenzie is on seven-under heading into the final round. Mackenzie had five birdies and a bogey in his four-under 68, and was a shot clear of Arno Pretorius and Luan Boshoff, and of amateurs Sam McKenzie and Kian Rose.
Thomas started his round on the 10th, and had an eventful outward nine after starting steadily with a pair of pars on 10 and 11. He made bogey on 12, then had three birdies in a row. There was another dropped shot on the 16th, and yet another birdie on 17, before he made par on 18 ahead of the turn. He made two more birdies on the trot on one and two, and then kept things tidy all the way home.
One shot behind the four players in a share of third were French amateur Jules Helary, Christian MacGregor, a South African amateur, and veteran professional Ulrich van den Berg on five-under.
