As Louis Oosthuizen’s competitive horizons shrink in the fall-out of joining the LIV Golf circus, he put up a good showing in a competitive event on Sunday with a closing four-under-par 68 giving him a share of eighth in the DP World Tour’s BMW International Open in Munich.
Oosthuizen made seven birdies and three bogeys in his final round, moving to 16-under on a course that traditionally delivers low scores. That was shown by the winning total of 22-under, which was shared by Haotong Li of China and Thomas Pieters of Belgium. Li won on the first hole of the play-off, draining a monster birdie putt to leave Pieters needing a 10-footer to prolong the play-off. He missed. New Zealand’s Ryan Fox was third on 20-under.
Oosthuizen made three birdies and a bogey on the front nine, and four birdies and two bogeys on the back nine, and he shared eighth with Jordan Smith of England.
Brandon Stone closed with a three-under 69 for a share of 15th on 13-under, while Dean Burmester and Wilco Nienaber were on 12-under in a share of 21st after rounds of 68 and 71 respectively. Thriston Lawrence also had a 69 to close, finishing on nine-under in a share of 36th, together with George Coetzee, Zander Lombard and Daniel van Tonder. Jacques Kruyswijk was on eight-under in 48th, and Louis de Jager was on seven-under in 53rd.
