Deon Germishuys made four birdies and two bogeys on Friday as he climbed to 41st on the leaderboard of the DP World Tour’s ISPS Handa World Invitational at Galgorm Castle and Massereene.
His round of two-under 68 on Massereene gave him a shot at making the second cut which happens after the third round. At level-par for the tournament, he was nine shots behind the leader, Ewen Ferguson of Scotland, who had a level-par 70 at Massereene to remain nine-under for the tournament. Ferguson was one ahead of Spaniard Borja Virto.
The top South African after the first round was Wilco Nienaber, but he battled to a two-over 72 at Galgorm Castle to slip into a share of 24th. He made two birdies and four bogeys, including a run of thee dropped shots in a row from the 15th to the 17th.
Bryce Easton was also on level-par after a second round of three-over 73 at Massereene, as was Thomas Aiken after a four-over 74 at Galgorm Castle.
Haydn Porteous, Louis de Jager and Ruan Conradie missed the cut, while JC Ritchie retired.
