Dylan Frittelli gave him self a shot at progressing in the FedExCup play-offs on Saturday as he fired a four-under-par 66 in the third round of the FedEx St Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee.
His six birdies and two bogeys took him to eight-under for the tournament, five behind the lead JJ Spaun of the United States. More importantly, the 16-pace rise on the leaderboard to a share of 17th saw him projected to rise to 82nd on the FedEx Cup standings. Another good round, and he could well get inside the top 70 who will make it into next week’s BMW Championship.
Behind Frittelli, the other South African to make the play-off, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, endured a round of six-over 76 with now fewer than six bogeys and two doubles. He made four birdies on the front nine to keep him going together with his four bogeys, but doubles on 12 and 15 hurt his score. He will still make the BMW Championship next week, as he is unlikely to fall out of the top 70 on the FedEx Cup rankings.
Frittelli hit 10 of 14 fairways and 15 of 18 greens in regulation. His accuracy off the tee and into the greens were the best they had been all week, and led to his good score.
