Louis Oosthuizen was the best South African on Sunday in the LIV Golf Invitational event in Boston after he carded a closing three-under-par 67 to finish in a share of ninth.
Oosthuizen made five birdies and two bogeys to reach 10-under-par for the 54-hole event, five back from the three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard after regulation play. Dustin Johnson, Anirban Lahiri of India and Chile’s Joaquin Niemann were all on 15-under-par. Johnson won the resulting sudden-death play-off with an eagle on the 18th that rattled into the cup at high speed.
Branden Grace was a shot behind Oosthuizen on nine-under after his closing two-under-par 68 saw him finish in 12th. Charl Schwartzel had a one-over-par 71 to finish on two-under in a share of 35th in the 48-man field, while Shaun Norris had a two-over 72 and was in a share of 20th on two-over for the event.
Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent had a closing 69 and was in a share of 21st.
The team contest was won by 4 Aces GC, consisting of Johnson, Talor Gooch, Pat Perez and Patrick Reed. The South African team, Stinger GC, with Oosthuizen, Schwartzel, Grace and Norris, was in 10th place.
