Justin Harding carded a five-under-par 67 at Wentworth on Saturday in the second round of the shortened BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tour to climb into a share of 16th.

Harding had a bogey-free round with two birdies on the front nine and three on the back nine to reach eight-under-par for the tournament which was cut to 54 holes after there was no play on Friday because of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

He was four shots off the lead which was shared by Soren Kjeldsen of Denmark and Norway’s Viktor Hovland. The Scandinavian duo led by one from Thomas Detry of Belgium, Spaniard Rafa Cabrera Bello and a charging Rory McIlroy.

There were five players in a share of sixth on 10-under including former Open champions Francesco Molinari and Shane Lowry, as well as LIV Golf player Talor Gooch. Gooch was one of seven LIV players who had the now unusual experience of making the cut after Sergio Garcia did a runner by withdrawing after his opening 76 and annoying everyone by having no apparent good reason for doing so.

In a share of 16th with Harding was George Coetzee who had a three-under 69 in the second round.

Oliver Bekker was on five-under-par through 36 holes with a second-round 70 moving him to a share of 49th, while Justin Walters, Shaun Norris and Daniel van Tonder all made the cut on the number at four-under in a share of 58th. They had rounds of 67, 69 and 74 respectively.
