Deon Germishuys carded a three-under-par 69 on Friday to move into a share of 14th place at the halfway stage of the Challenge Tour’s Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos.

Germishuys is the only South African in the Challenge Tour field this week, and he made five birdies and two bogeys to go with his opening one-under-par. He moved to four-under for the tournament, fouth shots off the lead which was shared by England’s Todd Clements and Philipp Mejow of Germany. They led by one from three players on seven-under.

Germishuys shared 14th with 12 other players, including Clement Sordet of France, who won the Challenge Tour’s SDC Open at Zebula in March for his fifth Challenge Tour title.

Germishuys won the Sishen Classic in May for his first Sunshine Tour title. He’s been campaigning on the Challenge Tour since then. He came third behind Sordet at Zebula, and has picked up two top-10s since taking his campaign to Europe.
