Charl Schwartzel closed out the LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah with a level-par 70 on Sunday to finish in ninth on nine-under-par for the 54-hole event.
Schwartzel made three birdies and three bogeys to finish three shots out of the three-hole play-off between Peter Uihlein and Brooks Koepka. They finished on 12-under after rounds of level-par 70 and one-under 69 respectively. Koepka won the play-off. Joaquin Niemann and Sergio Garcia were in third and fourth on 11-under after Niemann closed with a 65 and Garcia with a 68.
Branden Grace showed signs of recovery from the rib injury which saw him withdraw from last week’s event in Bangkok as he closed with a three-under 67 for 28th on three-under for 28th. Louis Oosthuizen was also on three-under after a closing 69 put him in 31st. Shaun Norris battled to a four-over 74 and 44th place in the 48-man field on two-over.
Koepka’s team, Smash GC, with his brother Chase, Uihlein and Jason Kokrak, won the team competition on 33-under-par. Stinger GC, the South African team with Oosthuizen, Schwartzel, Grace and Norris, finished way down in ninth on 18-under.
