A run of four consecutive birdies on Saturday helped Dean Burmester climb inside the top 20 after a third-round seven-under-par 64 in the PGA Tour’s World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba in Mexico.

Burmester, who had been languishing in 55th place at the halfway mark after rounds of 68 and 70 put him at four-under for the tournament, made three more birdies in his third round without dropping a shot to head into the final round in a share of 16th place at 11-under.

He was 11 shots behind the leader Russell Henley of the United States, who added a third-round six-under 65 to successive rounds of eight-under 63s to move to 22-under and a six shot lead over compatriots Will Gordon and Patton Kissire.

Burmester made his first birdie on the second, and then he reeled off his four in a row from the fifth to reach the turn in five-under. He picked up his other two birdies on the 11th and the 13th.

Dylan Frittelli, one of two other South Africans to make the cut, carded a three-under-par 68 to move to a share of 47th on seven-under. MJ Daffue was the other, and he was in a share of 65th after one-over 72 dropped him to three-under.
