Tandi McCallum added a closing three-under-par 67 on Thursday to her opening two-under 68 to win the seventh event in the Standard Bank Pro-Am Series at Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estate.

It was McCallum’s third victory on the eight-event series, after wins at Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate and at Lost City at Sun City, and it puts her at the top of the series Order of Merit, ahead of Bonita Bredenhann, with one event to go from December 5-7 at Randpark.

It was Bredenhann who was second at Mount Edgecombe, after a closing one-over-par took her to one-over for the 36 holes, four behind McCallum.

With a margin like that, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was a bit of a walk in the park for McCallum, but she had to overcome something of a horror start with three bogeys in the first four holes. She got things back on something of an even keel with a birdie on the fifth, but she dropped again on the eighth.

She gathered herself with a birdie on the ninth, and then unfurled a superlative homeward nine, with birdies on 10, 11, 14, 15 and 17. With no more dropped shots, it was something of a victory lap.

In a share of second with Bredenhann was Lora Assad, and Larissa du Preez, Nicole van Pletzen and Zethu Myeki shared fourth on two-over for the tournament.
