He had it sewn up by the time he made bogeys on 16 and 17 on Friday, and Kyle McClatchie held out against a strong field to take the Bushveld Tour’s Kagiso Tarp & Net Series #4 at Glendower Golf Club.

McClatchie followed up his strong opening round of six-under-par 66 with a closing three-under 69. That included seven birdies and four bogeys, and it helped to a one-stroke edge over Ryan van Velzen. Harry Konig of England, who opened with a stunning 63, shared third with Keegan Maclachlan and Simon du Plooy.

Konig made bogey on the second in a poor start to protecting his three-shot lead over McClatchie, while McClatchie made two birdies in the first two holes to erase the gap. McClatchie’s two bogeys before the consecutive drops late in his round came on four and 11, but he made birdies on six, eight and 10 in between those. He picked up shots again on 12 and 15, while Konig picked up one on eight, and then dropped on 13 and made double on 17. That essentially was that and Konig’s birdie on 18 was not enough.

Van Velzen, like McClatchie, carded a closing 69, and, after his opening 67, was always playing catch-up.
