South Africa’s top ranked amateur Yurav Premlall has announced his decision to turn professional and will tee it up in this week’s Bain’s Whisky Cape Town Open at Royal Cape Golf Club.

The 19-year-old Glendower golfer has built up a stellar amateur career, culminating in him reaching the number one spot on the GolfRSA rankings and selection for the International Team in the Junior Presidents Cup last year.

Premlall has been a member of the GolfRSA National Squad since 2017 but really announced himself when he qualified for, and made the cut in, the 2018 South African Open, aged just fifteen years and five months.

In 2019 he became the youngest ever winner on the professional Big Easy Tour, when he won the Big Easy Challenge by two strokes at the Observatory Golf Club.

Two years later, Premlall won the inaugural Nedbank Junior Challenge and later that year he lifted the Freddie Tait Cup as the leading amateur in the South African Open Championship at the Gary Player Country Club.

“I would like to pay tribute to GolfRSA and thank them for the opportunities and foundation they have provided, which have enabled me to get to this point,” he said. “I look forward to testing my skills at the next level and I am excited to launch my professional career on my home tour in Cape Town.”

Premlall will be managed by Butler Bell Sports.
