Zander Lombard’s week on the DP World Tour last week was solid if unspectacular, but he continues his rise up the Official World Golf Ranking list, climbing to 234th after a share of 17th in the Thailand Classic.
It was a week during which most of the top 20 South Africans on the rankings list slid down a little, either through inaction, or algorithmic adjustment, and, in some cases, performances which dropped them a few places.
Besides Lombard’s climb to a position which has him heading towards his career-high ranking of 190th, Ockie Strydom was adjusted up two positions despite being inactive, MJ Daffue was up one, and also didn’t play, Branden Grace was up two without brandishing a club in anger, and Daniel van Tonder started to reverse what has been a long slide by climbing one position simply by dint of making it to the weekend on the DP World Tour.
Dean Burmester remains South Africa’s top-ranked golfer, but how long that will last now that he has jumped ship to LIV Golf is a question to which we’ll soon have an answer.
