Jayden Schaper kept himself in the running on Friday after a second-round one-under-par 71 in the DP World Tour’s Hero India Open at DLF Golf & Country Club, New Delhi saw him reach the halfway stage in a share of 19th.
Schaper made four bogeys in his second round, but he kept plugging away and made five birdies to reach one-under for the tournament. That was nine shots off the lead which was held by Germany’s Yannik Paul. Paul stretched out to a five-stroke lead as he followed up his opening seven-under with a three-under 69. In a share of second were Mikko Korhonen of Finalnd, Iceland’s Gudmundur Kristjansson, Marcel Siem of Germany and the home country’s Angad Cheema, all on five-under.
So Schaper, at one-under, is not that far off from being able to make a push for a top-10 finish, which would ignite the possibility of his being able to push for a full exemption to the DP World Tour next season.
Shaun Norris had a three-under 69 in the second round to move to level-par for the tournament and a share of 24th. Thomas Aiken was on two-over in a share of 39th, while MJ Viljoen and Daniel van Tonder were in a share of 46th on three-over.
Jake Redman, Albert Venter and Bryce Easton all made the cut on the number at four-over-par. Oliver Bekker, however, missed out on the weekend’s action after rounds of 81 and 80.
