Jayden Schaper charged hard on Sunday in the final round of the DP World Tour’s Hero India Open, but in the end, a near-catastrophic quadruple-bogey on the 17th cost him a chance of a top-10 finish.
Schaper made nine birdies after he started his round with a bogey, and he dropped another shot on the fifth. He made two birdies after the first dropped shot, and he went on something of a spree with five birdies in a row after the second. He dropped another on the 12th, and he regained that with a birdie two holes later. But then came the quadruple, and, although he closed with a birdie, his shot at a top-10 had evaporated.
He finished on two-under for his final round, on four-under for the tournament, and 10 shots off the victory by German veteran Marcel Siem. Siem closed with a four-under 68 to get to 14-under. That gave him a one-shot win over compatriot Yannik Paul. Joost Luiten of the Netherlands finished third on 12-under, four shots clear of Jorge Campillo of Spain and Japan’s Kazuki Higa.
Thomas Aiken and Bryce Easton were in a share of 37th after closing rounds of 74 and 69 respectively. Shaun Norris was in 48th after a 75, Daniel van Tonder was in 57th after a 78, and MJ Viljoen also closed with a 78 for 59th. Jake Redman was in 63rd after his 78, and Albert Venter had an 81 to finish 66th.
