GOLFER OF THE WEEK FEB 27 2023: Dylan Mostert

Feb 27, 2023 | Featured, Features

Dylan Mostert took his second career win on the Sunshine Tour on Sunday when he won the Nelson Mandela Bay Championship at Humewood Golf Club in Gqeberha.

What made it even more memorable for him was that it catapulted him into second spot on the Challenge Tour’s Road to Mallorca rankings. At the end of the year, the top 20 on that list of the tour which co-sanctioned the Humewood tournament gain their playing rights on the DP World Tour. And, although it’s early days yet, winning a tournament goes a long way to making sure that player will be inside the top 20.

His play on the challenging links layout at Humewood – especially during the final two rounds, when the win came up – was impressive: He made just six bogeys the whole week, while signing for four rounds in the 60s. His closing five-under 67 featured six birdies, and, impressively, a closing birdie on the 18th after he had dropped a shot on the par-five 17th to give his chances of winning a bit of a scare.

It was a three-putt bogey on 17, and that was just the second one of the week after a bogey on the sixth in the second round. He hit 16 of 18 greens in regulation in the final round for his best performance of the week in that category.

The win takes him to sixth on the Sunshine Tour’s Luno Order of Merit, and it is his second victory within nine months as his form has remained very consistent since his maiden win in June last year.

For all that, Dylan Mostert is our Golfer of the Week, brought to you by
