Solid start for Buhai in HSBC Women’s World Championship

Ashleigh Buhai opened the LPGA Tour’s HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore on Thursday with a three-under-par 69 for a share of ninth after the first round.

It was a bogey-free effort by the AIG Women’s Open champion, as she picked up shots on the sixth, eighth and the 13th. She was five strokes behind the lead of Elizabeth Szokol of the United States. Szokol led by three shots from Yuka Saso of Japan, with six players in a share of third on four-under, including Nelly Korda of the United States. Buhai shared ninth with four other players, including Linn Grant of Sweden.

Paula Reto battled her way to 64th place in the 66-plater field with an opening five-over-par 77.
