Retief Goosen climbed 41 places to a share of fourth on the leaderboard on Saturday when he carded a superb eight-under-par 64 in the second round of the PGA Tour Champions Cologuard Classic in Tucson, Arizona.

It was a bogey-free birdie bonanza by the two-time US Open champion as he went out in 31, and came home in 33. He reached seven-under for the tournament after opening with a one-over 73. That put him four shots behind the leader, David Toms. Toms led by two from Sweden’s Robert Karlsson who was on nine-under. Steve Stricker was third on eight-under.

Ernie Els was down in a share of 32nd after a second round of on-over-par 73 took him to two-under for the tournament. David Frost had a second consecutive one-over, and, at two-over, was in a share of 59th.
