Where they’re playing: Steenberg Golf Club

Steenberg Golf Club, situated on the oldest working farm in the Cape, is an 18-hole parkland course designed to make full use of its many natural features and hazards. That’s where the Investec South African Women’s Open Championship will play out this week.

The Peter Matkovich-designed layout meanders through the houses on the estate between vineyards and water features. Even though a number of greens are raised, it is relatively flat, making it an easy walking course.

The par-five 5th is the longest hole on the course where accuracy off the tee is required to avoid the well-bunkered landing area. The signature hole is the picture-perfect par-three 7th where the green is surrounded by a large bunker and a lake on three sides.

A round at Steenberg finishes on a high as the par-five 18th stretches down towards the clubhouse with the picturesque mountains forming the perfect backdrop.

Steenberg is a private club, but guests are most welcome and will no doubt enjoy the hospitality of the clubhouse playing on this memorable course.
