Dylan Mostert opened up his Magical Kenya Open campaign on Thursday in the first round of the DP World Tour’s event at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi with a seven-under-par 64.

Mostert, who won the last Challenge Tour event in South Africa at Humewood just two weeks ago, picked up where he left off as he made eight birdies and a bogey to share the top of the leaderboard with American John Catlin. Catlin had five birdies and an eagle, and the pair led by one from Wil Besseling of the Netherlands and France’s Pierre Pineau.

Mostert started his round on the 10th, and got things going straight away with three consecutive birdies. She picked up two more strokes on the 16th and 18th. After the turn, he made birdies on three, four and six, before dropping his only shot of the day on his closing hole, the ninth.

Two shots back, Casey Jarvis opened with a five-under-par 66, while Bryce Easton had a four-under 67. Jayden Schaper was on three-under 68, Oliver Bekker and Jaco Prinsloo were on two-under 69 together with Tristen Strydom.
