Christiaan Bezuidenhout fought his way to a two-over-par 74 on Sunday to finish in a share of 13th in the PGA Tour’s Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
After making an early birdie on the second hole, Bezuidenhout made three bogeys in a row from the third. He picked up one of those shots again with a birdie on the 12th, but he made another bogey on the par-four 14th. He finished on seven-under-par for the tournament, 10 strokes behind the winner Scottie Scheffler.
Scheffler won by five strokes from Tyrell Hatton, with Viktor Hovland and Tom Hoge in a share of third on 10-under-par.
Garrick Higgo also closed with a two-over to finish on three-under for the week in a share of 44th.
The victory, Scheffler’s second in his last four starts, moved him back to number one in the world and third in the FedExCup standings. He joined Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only players to simultaneously hold the Masters and Players titles.
