Erik van Rooyen finished in a hurry on Sunday with a four-under-par 67 lifting him to a share of 10th in the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida.
But for a bogey on the 17th, Van Rooyen might have finished in a share of seventh. He ended up on three-under for the tournament, seven strokes behind the winner Taylor Moore of the United States. Moore’s 10-under was a stroke better than Adam Schenk, while Tommy Fleetwood and Jordan Spieth shared third on eight-under.
Van Rooyen made four of his five birdies on the front nine, and picked up his fifth on the 11th. It was all pars from then until he put his tee shot on the 219-yard par-three 17th into the greenside bunker on the right, and was unable to get up and down for par from there as he blasted his shot right over the green from the trap.
MJ Daffue closed with a two-under 69 to climb inside the top 20. At one-under for the tournament, he was in a share of 19th. Garrick Higgo had a closing five-over 76 to slip to four-over for the tournament and a share of 58th.
