Deon Germishuys stayed right in contention on Friday with a two-under-par 68 at PGM Ishioka Golf Club in Omitama, Japan putting him just two strokes off the lead at the halfway stage of the DP World Tour’s ISPS Handa-Championship.

Germishuys made three birdies and just a single bogey and moved to eight-under for the tournament. The lead was shared at 10-under by Jazz Janewattananond of Thailand, Australia’s Lucas Herbert and Grant Forrest of Scotland. Germany’s Maximilian Kieffer was in fourth, one shot back on nine-under, and Germishuys shared fifth with Japan’s Takumi Kanaya and Jordan Smith of England.

Jacques Kruyswijk signed for a level-par 70 to drop into a share of 33rd on five-under through 36 holes, while Ernie Els made a birdie and an eagle in his last four holes to make the cut comfortably on four-under-par and a share of 39th.

Jbe’ Kruger and Louis de Jager made the cut on the number on two-under with rounds of one-over and three-under respectively.

South Africans who missed the cut were Zander Lombard, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Justin Walters and Bryce Easton, while Shaun Norris retired from the tournament.
