Travis Ladner roared home on Wednesday with a bogey-free seven-under-par 65 giving him a one-stroke victory in the Bushveld Tour’s Hamilton’s Series #2 at ERPM Golf Club.
Ladner started the final round of the 54-hole tournament in the four-event series two strokes behind Jason Froneman, and, with three birdies on the front nine, had erased the gap as Froneman made a bogey and two birdies. And while Froneman was bogey-free with three birdies on the homeward nine, Ladner made four birdies without dropping a shot to pull clear.
Both Ladner and Froneman opened with three-over-par 75, and then Froneman had a second-round 67 to give him the edge over Ladner’s 69.
Amateurs Joshua Hirsch and Gareth Matthysen shared third on five-under for the tournament with Christian Kriek, while Ben Firth and Regan Steyn shared sixth with another amateur, Werner Deyzel. Slade Pickering, ninth, and Luke Mayo rounded out the top 10.
The Order of Merit for the four-event series carries a purse of R40,000 for the player who tops it at the end of the series, provided he’s played two events or more. The series ends on June 1.
