Nienaber lying 12th ahead of weekend in Belgium

Wilco Nienaber had a superb opening nine on Friday on his way to a second round of three-under-par 68 in the DP World Tour’s Soudal Open at Rinkven International Golf Club in Antwerp, Belgium.

Nienaber moved to six-under-par at the halfway mark of the tournament, in a share of 12th. He was five shots off the lead which was held by Sweden’s first-round leader, Simon Forsstrom, who added a four-under 67 to his opening seven-under. Forsstrom led by one from France’s Jeong weon Ko, with local hero Thomas Detry in third on nine-under.

Nienaber made three birdies and an eagle on his opening nine, the back nine, but he dropped three shots with three bogeys on his homeward nine, before picking up another birdie on the eighth.

Next best of the South Africans was Hennie du Plessis in a share of 29th on four-under after his second-successive round of two-under 69. Thomas Aiken was also on four-under after he carded a 67. Zander Lombard was on three-under, with Justin Walters and Deon Germishuys on two-under in a share of 60th to make the cut on the number.

Darren Fichardt, Brandon Stone, JC Ritchie, Oliver Bekker, Bryce Easton, Louis de Jager and Tristen Strydom missed the cut.
