Germishuys into SA’s top 20 on world rankings

Deon Germishuys finished in a share of 15th on the DP World Tour at the weekend, and that has seen him jump inside South Africa’s top 20 players on the Official World Golf Ranking list published on Monday.

Germishuys’ nine-spot climb up the list took him to 286th, as he leapfrogged Justin Harding, who is out for a lengthy recovery from injury problems, and Branden Grace, who is on a LIV Golf induced slide down the rankings despite a good performance on the breakaway ‘tour’ over the weekend.

After Germishuys won the Sishen Classic on the Sunshine Tour last year, he reached a career-high of 264th. He had slipped to outside the top 300 in the world, at 303rd, after the Jonsson Workwear Open earlier this year, but has been slowly working his way back.

The other South African who had a good boost on the list was Garrick Higgo. His share of 30th in the PGA Tour’s AT&T Byron Nelson at the weekend also saw him jump nine places into 199th – back inside the world’s top 200, but a long way off his career-high 38th.

South Africa’s top-ranked golfer remains Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who was unchanged at 77th after his share of 23rd in the AT&T Byron Nelson.
