Lawrence climbs PGA Championship leaderboard with 2nd-round 69

Thriston Lawrence had a one-under-par 69 on Friday in the second round of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York to move to four-over-par for the second major championship of year.

His three birdies and two bogeys saw him jump 49 places on the leaderboard into a share of 48th place as he made the cut with a shot to spare. He shared 48th with 10 other players, including compatriot Dean Burmester, who had a one-over-par 71 to climb eight places. Also on four-under was world number one Jon Rahm of Spain, who had a two-under 68 to make the cut.

In the lead were Scottie Scheffler of the United States, Corey Conners of Canada and Viktor Hovland of Norway. The trio had rounds of 68, 68 and 67 respectively to move to five-under and pull two ahead of first-round leader Bryson DeChambeau and fellow American Justin Suh. DeChambeau had a one-over 71 and Suh signed for a 68.

Brooks Koepka had the round of the day with a four-under 66 to move to two-under for the championship and a share of sixth. Rory McIlroy moved to level-par for the tournament and a share of 10th after he signed for a one-under 69.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout missed the cut by one on six-over after he carded his second successive three-over 73, and Ockie Strydon signed off from his first major championship with a six-over 76 to finish down on 13-over.
