Keegan McLachlan opened with a five-under-par 67 on Tuesday in the opening round of the Bushveld Tour’s Hamilton’s Series #4 at Centurion Country Club to take a one-stroke lead after 18 holes.
It was a solid round by McLachlan, who made six birdies and dropped just one stroke on the par-three third. Behind him in a share of second were Francois van der Walt and Regan Steyn, with Coert Groenewald and amateur Nathan Trodd in a share of fourth on three-under-par.
McLachlan opened with a birdie on the first before dropping his shot on the third, but it all went smoothly after that, with birdies on the eighth and ninth ahead of the turn, and then on 12, 15 and 18 on his way home.
The winner of the last tournament, Luke Mayo, opened with a one-under-par 71 to be in a share of ninth. He currently lies second on the order of merit for the series. The leader, Willem Swart, signed for an opening level-par 72 for a share of 16th.
