Despite making two bogeys on Thursday, Louis de Jager still carded a six-under-par 66 for a share of third after the first round of the DP World Tour’s and Ladies European Tour’s Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed at Ullna Golf and Country Club.

He started his round on the 10th, and had racked up three birdies inside the first six holes he played. He dropped a shot on the 17th, but birdied the 18th to turn in three-under. After the turn, it was a similar pattern as he made birdies on one, three and four before dropping a shot on the seventh. Once again, he picked that shot up again with a birdie on his closing hole, the ninth.

The leading woman after the first round was India’s Trichat Cheenglab, who joined De Jager and Frederic Lacroix of Frande and Dale Whitnell of England in a share of third.

Next-best of the South Africans was Justin Walters, who signed for a five-under-par 67, with an eagle, six birdies and three bogeys on his card putting him in a share of seventh. Zander Lombard was on two-under in a share of 29th, while Nicole Garcia was the leading South African woman on one-under in a share of 49th.

Casandra Alexander carded a one-over 73 for a share of 89th, while Oliver Bekker was on two-over in a share of 104th.
