Strong start for Schaper in BMW International Open

Jayden Schaper opened his campaign on Thursday in the DP World Tour’s BMW International Open at Golfclub Munchen Eichenried in Germany with a four-under-par 68 for a share of 10th place.

Schaper made five birdies and a bogey in his opening round to be just two strokes off the first-round lead which was shared by Adrien Saddier of France, Italy’s Edoardo Molinari and Rikuya Hoshino of Japan. That trio had a one-stroke lead over six players, and Schaper shared 10th with nine other players.

Bryce Easton, Oliver Bekker and Thriston Lawrence were the next-best of the South Africans in the field at one-under-par for a share of 47th. Justin Walters was on level-par, and Daniel van Tonder, Tristen Strydom, JC Ritchie, Thomas Aiken, Wilco Nienaber and Hennie du Plessis were on one-over in a share of 87th. Darren Fichardt was in 110th on two-over, and Deon Germishuys and Ockie Strydom were on three-over in a share of 124th. Zander Lombard was on four-over and Jacques Kruyswijk was on seven-over in a share of 152nd.
