It was going to be a tough act to follow his win last week, but Darren Fichardt showed all his experience to close with a three-under-par 67 on Sunday to finish in a share of 10th in the DP World Tour’s Made in HimmerLand in Farsø, Denmark.
Fichardt won on the Challenge Tour in France last week, and used his chance back on the DP World Tour to good effect after a tough day in the opening round when he carded a two-over-par 70. His game withstood that pressure with rounds of 66-66-67 to finish off, and, at nine-under for the tournament, he was just four strokes out of the play-off. Local hero Rasmus Hojgaard won that on the sixth extra hole when Spain’s Nacho Elvira made a double-bogey on the par-four 18th.
That pair was one shot ahead of Richie Ramsay of Scotland in third on 12-under, with four players in a share of fourth on 11-under.
Fichardt started fast with four birdies in the first six holes, but his march was halted with bogeys on seven and eight. He steadied things with a run of pars until the 16th, where he picked up his final shot.
Behind him, Hennie du Plessis closed with a one-over 71 to finish on seven-over in a share of 24th. Daniel van Tonder had a 68 to finish in a share of 30th on six-under, Bryce Easton was on five-under in a share of 35th after a 69, and Justin Walters’ 69 took him to four-under and a share of 45th. Thomas Aiken improved to three-under for the tournament with his closing 67 giving him a share of 49th. Louis de Jager was the last of the South Africans to make the cut, and he closed with a 69 to finish level-par in a share of 62nd.
