Louis Oosthuizen made an eagle, two birdies and a bogey on Sunday to finish in fourth in the LIV Golf-London event at the Centurion Club in St Albans, England.
In the end, his three-under-par 68 was not good enough to stop Open champion Cameron Smith of Australia winning. Smith’s closing 68 was good enough to hold off the charge of Patrick Reed of the United States, who made seven birdies and a bogey to move to 14-under for the 54 holes, one off the lead. Smith’s countryman Marc Leishman was third on 14-under after seven birdies and two bogeys gave him a closing five-under 66.
Interestingly, with two weeks before the final major championship of the year, the Open Championship, Smith, former champion Oosthuizen and Leishman, who was involved in a play-off in the 2015 Open at St Andrews, all showed signs of rounding into form for a championship they all clearly thrive on.
Dean Burmester closed with a one-under-par 70 to finish on seven-under-par in 19th, Branden Grace had a 70 for 24th on six-under, and Charl Schwartzel had a two-over 73 to finish 34th on three-under.
The South African team, Stinger GC, finished third on 29-under.
