Fast finish gives Van Rooyen share of 6th in Barracuda Championship

Erik van Rooyen made an eagle, five birdies and a bogey on Sunday to climb 19 places into a share of sixth in the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship at Tahoe Mountain Club in Truckee, California.

In a tournament he won in 2021, he finished on 35 points in the modified stableford format which awards five points for an eagle, two for a birdie, none for a par, minus one for a bogey, and monus three for a double or worse. He was five points behind the winner Ashkay Bhatia who defeated compatriot Patrick Rogers of the United States in a play-off. Julien Guerrier of France and Denmark’s Jens Dantorp shared third on 37 points.

Van Rooyen’s eagle came on the 355-yard par-four 16th when he holed out from inside two feet after driving the green.

In a share of 10th on 34 points was JC Ritchie, who had an eagle, five birdies and two bogeys in his final round for a 13-point tally and a 15-place climb up the leaderboard. His eagle came on the 542-yard par-five sixth hole.

MJ Daffue finished on 28 points in a share of 34th, while Louis de Jager and Dylan Frittelli missed the cut.
