Keenan Davidse had his best result on the Challenge Tour this season when he closed with a four-under-par 67 on Sunday to finish in a share of 12th in the Irish Challenge at Headfort Golf Club in Kells, County Meath.
Davidse finished the tournament on five-under-par, seven strokes behind the winner, Brandon Robinson Thompson of England. Robinson Thompson also closed with a 67 to beat American Jordan Gumberg and England’s Will Enefer, by two strokes. Gumberg fnished with a one-under 70, and Enefer raced home in eight-under 63.
Davidse’s previous best finish on the tour this season was his share of 19th in the Andalucia Challenge de Cadiz in June, although he did have a share of ninth in the DP World Tour’s and Sunshine Tour’s SDC Open in March. He’s battled a bit with eight missed cuts on the Challenge Tour, and this result will give him a boost in confidence.
Former Cape Town Open champion Rhys Enoch of Wales finished three strokes ahead of Davidse in a share of fifth on eight-under after his closing 68.
Wilco Nienaber closed with a one-over 72 for a share of 28th, while Haydn Porteous, Brandon Stone, Jaco Prinsloo, Luke Jerling, JJ Senekal, Dylan Mostert and Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Follett-Smith all missed the cut.
